This is a phrase that we, Murata employees, recite almost every day and have valued since our founding. We at Murata must take this phrase to heart more than ever and strive to operate our business daily with it in mind. The background of this feeling lies in the various changes in society today.
To realize a sustainable society, it is necessary for companies to earn trust from society and contribute to solving various social issues such as the environment, health, and human rights. Our mission is to tackle these challenges through our business and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
Murata has been addressing social issues through our business up until now. The corporate slogan we uphold, "Innovator in Electronics," embodies not only leading literal innovation in business but also striving for better outcomes for the environment and society while aiming for value creation through innovative developments in electronics. Under our corporate philosophy and "Innovator in Electronics," we have contributed to cultural development by efficiently utilizing resources through compact manufacturing, contributing to energy savings by supplying high–efficiency modules, and providing unique products for markets such as communications and automotive.
Furthermore, opportunities for Murata's contributions will continue to expand. In the field of electronics, we are entering an IoT society where everything connects via communication networks; IT solution services are required across all fields including consumer goods, healthcare, factory automation (FA), and infrastructure. The next–generation communication technologies represented by 5G and LPWA are predicted to further accelerate this trend with advancements in communication technology such as high–speed transmission, low latency, large capacity, wide–area communication, and simultaneous connections that will further promote the development of an IoT society.
In the automotive industry as well, significant changes are occurring that will have important impacts on the world of electronics. With electrification and autonomous driving coming into play, it is predicted that semiconductor and communication functions will increase; automobiles will increasingly resemble electronic devices like smartphones. Furthermore, not just automobiles themselves but also markets related to services and infrastructure will expand; thus Murata’s relationship with society will deepen even further.
In addition to this change in societal values regarding corporate social responsibility (CSR) along with Murata's growing influence on society due to business growth, I strongly feel that there are heightened expectations for more harmonious business operations with society than ever before. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth by the United Nations with 2030 as a target align with our activities/direction; therefore moving forward if we are to grow sustainably alongside society we must weave solutions addressing social issues—where only Murata can contribute—into our management strategy from an ESG perspective while consciously conducting businesses harmonized with stakeholders. Taking these societal changes into account, we wish to operate our business with broader perspectives than ever before while contributing to cultural development. |
